Exodus 3:13. When Moses had an encounter with God at the burning bush, Moses was full of excuses on why he could not fulfill his calling. His second excuse to God at the burning bush was that he lacked knowledge to do what God told him to do. God had commanded Moses to talk to the children of Israel and tell them what God had told Moses in regard to their deliverance out of Egypt. Moses pleaded lack of knowledge in that he did not even know God’s name and what to tell the Israelites
(Exodus 3:13, “And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?”).
When you think about it, Moses’ excuse of lacking knowledge is very telling of Moses’ frame of mind. Moses had not comprehended at the burning bush that he must be talking to the one, true God. In Egypt, Moses must have come in contact with many gods that were but idols made by man. Here Moses was having an encounter with the Living God. God was not to be treated like some commonplace idol. He was in the presence of the one, true God who when he says something, it happens. God will always give us the knowledge and power to do what he asks of us. When God calls on us to do something, it is not time for debate or Excuses. It is time to believe God and just do it.
